MGS4 Walkthrough (All Acts)
This is the story-walkthrough hub for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Vol.2 / Master Collection version, released August 27, 2026). It covers the Act-by-Act flow and the fundamentals to remember while playing. Content is based on the official 2008 release where noted; anything that still needs confirmation on the 2026 version is marked to-be-verified.
Quick start
MGS4 builds on stealth basics while gradually introducing signature systems: CQC (close-quarters combat), OctoCamo (adaptive camouflage), the Solid Eye, and the Psyche/Stress gauges. For a first run, pick the standard difficulty and learn route-finding over firefights — staying unseen and using CQC beats trading shots in most encounters.
Difficulty & basics
Difficulty is chosen when starting the game. Movement basics (prone, wall-hugging, rolling) and camera control matter in every Act, and are more valuable than pure aim in the early hours.
Act-by-Act flow (overview)
- Act 1 — Liquid Sun: the first infiltration opens on a changed world.
- Act 2 — Solid Sun: travel between areas with pursuit and combat interleaved.
- Act 3 — Sunset: long-distance movement and an iconic tailing sequence.
- Act 4 — Twilight: a return-to-roots stage with fan-service for series veterans.
- Act 5 — Old Sun: the final confrontation begins.
Boss strategy approach
The route features several memorable fights: the BB (Beauty & Beast) Corps, Crying Wolf, Vamp and, late in the game, Liquid Ocelot. Each boss has a very different evade-and-punish rhythm; detailed per-boss tactics will be added as the individual pages are built and verified.
Missables to watch for
Trophies/achievements and collectibles (weapons, dolls, iPod tracks, FaceCamos and more) include items that are easy to miss inside specific Acts. Exact acquisition conditions are being confirmed on the 2026 version — they will be reflected on the trophy page and collectibles page once verified.
New Game+ & replays
The 2008 original included carry-over elements on replays. Whether the 2026 Master Collection version keeps New Game+ and its carry-over rules is officially unannounced — to-be-verified.
